This rad vintage tee commemorates the 1981 Capitol 10k Austin American-Statesman race. The Capitol 10k was first run in 1978, making this the fourth annual running of this race. It was sponsored by the Austin American-Statesman which is the major daily newspaper in Austin, Texas. The graphic on this shirt features the mascot for this event, 'Dillo the Armadillo. 'Dillo was introduced at the first race in 1978 and it was drawn by Pulitzer prize winning cartoonist, Ben Sargent. The 1981 10k had nearly 12,000 registered participants, 200 of which ran in the 12-and under division. This was also the first year that a woman ran and finished the race. Tracy Wong finished the race with a time of 36:34, meaning she ran an average of a 5.9 minute mile.
