This unique vintage tee is for Barris Kustom, one of the best known custom car designers in the world. Opened and run by George Barris until his death in 2015, Barris Kustom was responsible for building iconic cars like the Batmobile and the Munster Koach and DRAG-U-LA from the sitcom The Munsters. Barris was also famous for building cars for Hollywood celebrities, like Bob Hope's Bob Hope Kart.

Barris Kustom began as a joint venture between George Barris and his older brother, Sam. The two developed a love for cars and customizing at a young age and by 18 years old, George had opened the "Barris Custom Shop" in Los Angeles, California. In 1951, the brothers built the Hirohata Merc, which is often considered the most famous custom car of its era. It started out as a Mercury Eight and the Hirohata Merc helped establish the Mercury as a popular body for custom jobs. The Merc was shown at the 1952 General Motors Motorama and was a huge hit, subsequently helping the Barris name to become widely respected in the custom community.

Sam left the company in the late 1950s, and George and his wife Shirley changed the company name to Barris Kustom Industries. Around this time is when George started making cars for Hollywood. One of the first films to feature a Barris Kustom car was High School Confidential in 1958. His cars also appeared in TV shows like The Beverly Hillbillies, Starsky and Hutch, and Mannix.
