This shirt is from Hands Across America a public event held on Sunday May 25, 1986, in which approximately 6.5 million people held hands for fifteen minutes in a attempt to form a continuous human chain across the contiguous United States. Many participants donated ten dollars to reserve their place in line. Several celebrities in various states such as Brooke Shields, Liza Minnelli, Yoko Ono, Michael Jackson, future President Bill Clinton, and President Ronald Regan.

The event raised about $15 million and the proceeds were donated to local charities to fight hunger and homelessness and help those in poverty. The shirt features a red, white and blue graphic of the geographic outline of the United States with people holding hands. The shirt also has logos for the event sponsors, such as Citibank and Coca Cola. The event is referenced in the movie Us by director Jordan Peele.
