This vintage shirt is in memory of rock legend John Lennon, who gained worldwide recognition as the co-lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist of the Beatles. His songwriting partnership with Paul McCartney is considered one of the greatest in musical history. Lennon continued on with a solo career after the Beatles disbanded in 1970, he also collaborated with his second wife Yoko Ono.
Lennon was born in Liverpool in 1940. He formed his first band in 1956, known as the Quarrymen. This group eventually evolved into the Beatles in 1960. Lennon gained a reputation as an activist as well as a songwriter. Beginning with "All You Need is Love" in 1967, his songs became anthems for the anti-war movement and the counterculture of the 1960s. From 1968 to 1972 Lennon produced several albums with Ono, which included the top ten singles "Give Peace a Chance", "Instant Karma", "Imagine", and "Happy Xmas (War is Over)". His vocal criticism of the Vietnam War lead to a three year attempt by the Nixon administration to get him deported.
Lennon took a break from music in 1975 in order to care for his infant son, Sean Taro Ono Lennon. He returned in 1980 with the release of Double Fantasy. Three weeks after the album's release Lennon was shot and killed in the archway of his home by Mark David Chapman. Lennon's legacy lives on however. He has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, twice. Once as a member of the Beatles and once as a solo artist.
