Mount St. Helens is a volcano in the state of Washington that is most known for the major eruption on May 18, 1980, which was the deadliest and most economically destructive volcanic event in U.S. history. Fifty-seven people were killed and several homes, bridges, railways, and highways were destroyed. There were also at least a dozen reported small eruptions of ash from 1831 to 1857.
