This cool vintage concert tee is for the alternative rock band R.E.M. for their Pageantry Tour. The tour coincided with the release of their fourth studio album Lifes Rich Pageant, which was released in the summer of 1986. The album was recorded at John Mellencamp's Belmont Mall Studios with Mellencamp's producer Don Gehman. Gehman helped the band to move away from the obscure dense quality of their previous albums and into a more mainstream hard rock sound. It was the first album from the band to reach gold status selling 500,000 copies, and the single "Fall on Me" began to gain airplay on commercial radio. The album was a major step towards R.E.M. moving from cult band status to mass popularity.
Gehman was unable to work with the band on their next album but suggested they team up with Scott Litt. Litt produced the band's next five albums, starting with Document in 1987. Document featured the hit single "The One I Love" and became the band's first album to sell a million copies, which prompted the December 1987 cover of Rolling Stone Magazine to declare R.E.M. "America's Best Rock & Roll Band".
