The Bears also entered the game as the second team in NFL history to win 15 regular season games. Meanwhile, the Patriots entered the playoffs as a wild card team thanks to tiebreakers. The Bears' defensive end Richard Dent was named MVP of the game. This was also the same Chicago Bears lineup that recorded the rap song "The Super Bowl Shuffle". The song was released two months prior to the game and it peaked at No. 41 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
