The '97 Norwest Sun Bowl was off to a slow start, with neither team scoring in the first quarter. ASU was first to get a touchdown and field goal thanks to Steve Campbell and Lenzie Jackson, putting them in the lead 10-0. The third quarter saw ASU's Michael Martin run a 1-yard touchdown, bumping their lead to 17-0. The Iowa Hawkeyes did see a little redemption in the fourth quarter when Randy Reiners and Richard Carter completed a 26 yard touchdown. The football game wrapped up with a final score of 17-7.
