This epic promo tee comes from the 1998 partnership between iconic sports brand Starter and hip hop legend Funkmaster Flex. It's aged incredibly well after all these years and ready for many more. In true nineties style it's got a baggy fit, double sided print, and is super easy on the eyes.
Starter is a clothing manufacturer and widely known as one of the main players in licensed sports uniforms throughout the 1980s and 1990s. This includes NFL football, NBA basketball, NHL hockey, NCAA college sports, and MLB baseball.
As the early nineties rolled around, Starter established itself as a popular style brand thanks to their licensed sports jackets which were not only iconic but a symbol of status. With other swanky brands entering the market and gaining popularity in their own right (Tommy Hilfiger, Nautica, and Ralph Lauren), Starter began seeing a decline in their sales in the mid nineties.
By '98 they worked out endorsement deals with rap & hip-hop legend Funkmaster Flex and Pittsburgh Steelers star Jerome Bettis. Some may remember their awesome ad rocking Starter brand Steelers gear. This payed off and sparked a renewed interest in the Starter. Today, they continue to partner with some of the biggest names in athletics, and even have non-sports agreements with industry leaders like Coca-Cola.
Fits like a modern unisex adult large. Oversized, baggy fit.
