The album was released in 1988 and it was the last to feature guitarist and founding member, Ross "The Boss" Friedman. Friedman would go on to rejoin the punk band The Dictators. Songs from the album included "Wheels of Fire", Blood of the Kings", "Heart of Steel", and an adapted version of the orchestral arrangement "Flight of the Bumblebee" titled "Sting of the Bumblebee".
Manowar takes much of their lyrical inspiration from fantasy and Norse and Greco-Roman Mythology. They were included in the 1984 Guinness Book of World Records for delivering the loudest performance, a record which they have since broken twice. The band also holds the record for longest heavy metal concert ever played, clocking in at five hours and one minute.
