This awesome vintage shirt is for the television series MTV Unplugged, which was aired regularly on MTV from 1989 until 1999. The program continued to air after the 90s although less frequently. The program was a showcase of musical artists, and it usually featured guests playing acoustic instruments. Many artists who appeared on the show throughout the 90s wound up releasing their unplugged sessions as albums. Some of these artists include Mariah Carey, Rod Stewart, Tony Bennett, Robert Plant and Jimmy Page, Nirvana, and Alice in Chains, all of whom released an unplugged album which went platinum. Meanwhile Eric Clapton's Unplugged release sold 26 million copies and became the best-selling live album of all time.
The show's first episode featured Squeeze, Syd Straw, and Elliot Easton. Later on in 1991, they aired their first ever acoustic rap show featuring performances from LL Cool J, MC Lyte, De La Soul, and A Tribe Called Quest. Joe Walsh appeared on the show and wanted to perform the Eagles classic "Desperado" however, Don Henley sent a three page fax denying use of the song. MTV would later air an acoustic reunion concert from the Eagles, a special called Hell Freezes Over, which was produced by the Unplugged team. Nirvana's 1993 appearance on the show is notable for having been one of the last televised performances given by Kurt Cobain before his death five months later.
