This awesome shirt is a keepsake from the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, Germany. This marked Germany's first time hosting the games post-World War II and West Germany was eager to showcase the country in a positive light. This shirt features the official logo of the games designed by Oti Aicher, which was intended to represent a bright sun. Despite the host city's cheerful intentions, the games were sadly overshadowed by the Munich Massacre, a terrorist attack that lead to the death of two Olympic athletes and a hostage situation that lasted for nearly 18 hours. The incident forced the German government to reexamine their anti-terrorism policies.
Despite this attack, there was still much to celebrate during the games. The Soivet Union led the medal count with a total of 99 medals, with the United Sates trailing closely behind them with 94. Two American athletes also managed to pull off notably impressive feats. Mark Spitz set a record of most medals earned in a single Olympics with seven, while Olympic wrestler Dan Gable won gold without having a single point scored against him, an accomplishment that no other wrestler has ever achieved.
Fits like a modern unisex adult medium. The graphic is flocked. There are small spots on the front, see pics.
