This incredible vintage find dates all the way back to around the 1930s or early 40s. It was made by the Macy's department store brand, back when it was still known as R.H. Macy & Company, after its founder Rowland Hussey Macy.

This sweater is made from a thick, heavy wool, making it excellent protection against cold and moisture. In fact, the style and construction is reminiscent of the type of sweater traditionally worn by the United States Navy. Thick wool sweaters like this are used to protect sailors from harsh conditions while they're at sea, and this sweater is decorated with a felted patch of a blue star on a white field. The patch is similar to the Blue Star flag often flown by military families, although it is missing the service flag's red border. Still it's likely this sweater could have belonged to a service member. While there's no obvious records that confirm Macy's was ever an official outfitter for the military, they were thought to be the largest department store in the world in the 30s, which would have made them a prime option for the military's manufacturing needs.

Fits like a modern unisex adult small. There is a snag on the back and a spot on the front, see pics.
