This special tee is from a little known part of the Oakland A's history. It was created as promotional merch for a proposed MLB team that never came to fruition, the Denver Athletics.
Charlie Finley was the owner of the A's from 1960 until 1980 and he is one of the most notorious MLB owners of all time. When he bought the A's they were playing for Kansas City but he was determined to move the baseball team. At the end of Finley's ownership, after successfully moving the team to Oakland in 1968, he tried again to move the team to Denver.
This venture never panned out, and Denver eventually received their own expansion team, the Colorado Rockies, but remnants of the attempt, such as this t-shirt, still remain. Aside from his attempt to relocate the team, Charlie Finely is also remembered for coming up with the team's iconic green and yellow color palette, and also popularizing the team's nickname, the A's.
