Neuman's funny campaign slogan "W.I.N. (Write in Neuman)," is probably parodying the '84 US election between the Republican Ronald Reagan and Democratic Walter Mondale. He actually appeared in several different mediums before Mad, including dentist ads and another political campaign in the 1930s.
