During that era, local trainers and athletes like Bill Silva, Sam LaCross, and Herb and Johnny Staggs, worked to create a strong sense of community in the area. During the 70s, places like the Modesto Boxing Club were also a popular space to train for wrestlers, and there's records of a few famous faces passing through, including Andre the Giant and Peter Maivia, the grandfather of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.
