Ebenezer AME was founded in 1983 thanks to the efforts of 13 Black members of Mt. Zion Methodist Episcopal Church in the Georgetown section of Washington, DC. They left the segregation and discrimination at Mt. Zion to create an inclusive space for worship at Ebenezer. As of 2022, Ebeneer AME Church continues to be a prominent community figure.
