This vintage shirt commemorates the infamous eruption of Mount St. Helen's that took place on May 18th in the year 1980. This was the first volcanic eruption to occur in the US in 65 years, and it is remembered as the most disastrous, resulting in 57 known casualties. The eruption decimated hundreds of square miles surrounding the volcano, but it also led the state of Washington to declare May "Volcano Awareness Month", and the Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument was preserved in the wake of the disaster.
