Lindsay with the intent of offering opportunities to inner city kids on the east coast to participate in athletics during summer vacation. The games were free to participate in and were open to children under 16 years old. The event gained popularity and some cities that sent representatives over the years included Boston, Massachusetts, Baltimore, Maryland, Newark, New Jersey, and Birmingham, Alabama.
