This incredible t-shirt is a remarkable piece of rock 'n roll memorabilia. It dates back to the early 1970s and is one of the earliest t-shirts made for the legendary British band. The logo on this tee is the earliest edition of the band's logo, called the Queen crest. The design is notably missing the phoenix that normally looms over the crest. This shirt was most likely printed in anticipation of Queen's first US tour in 1974, shortly before the band was big enough to have their own official merch.
The Queen crest was designed by front man Freddie Mercury, who was an art school graduate. Mercury eventually refined the crest for the release of Queen's 1976 album A Day at the Races, which means this version of the crest was only in use for a couple years. The wordmark on this tee was also short-lived, only appeared on the covers of Queen and Queen II before a simplified version was introduced.
Mercury had a very specific vision in mind when he designed the Queen crest. He chose symbols to represent the zodiac signs of the band's members; a crab (Cancer) for Brian Harold May, two lions (Leo) for both Roger Meddows Taylor and John Richard Deacon, and two fairies (Virgo) for Mercury. The crest is also a subtle nod to the United Kingdom royal coat of arms, to which it bears a passing resemblance.
Queen is one of the most influential bands in the history of rock 'n roll. With hit songs that have stood the test of time, like"Bohemian Rhapsody" and "We Are the Champions," Queen remains one of the best-selling groups of all time. Countless artists, from Megadeath to The Smashing Pumpkins to George Michael to Faith Hill, have cited Queen as a source of inspiration.
Fits like a modern unisex adult small. This shirt is soft, thin, and distressed with several spots and holes throughout, see pics.
