This awesome tie dyed t-shirt is for the 25th Anniversary of The Who's iconic rock opera Tommy. During the mid 1960s, Pete Townsend was looking to explore musical formats beyond the standard three-minute pop single. Co-manager Kit Lambert encouraged him to come up with a rock opera. Townsend taught himself piano and began taking his song writing more seriously. His goal was to develop material that could stand on its own but also be connected into a larger cohesive storyline. He also wanted the material to be performed in concert.

The album Tommy was released in 1969 and it told the story of Tommy Walker, a young boy who became deaf, dumb, and blind after witnessing the unfortunate death of his father. Live performances of the album drew critical praise for the band and helped to reignite their career. In 1989 The Who launched a 25th Anniversary The Kids Are Alright Tour which included the majority of Tommy. It also featured guest artists including Phil Collins portraying Uncle Ernie, Billy Idol as Cousin Kevin, Patti LaBelle as the Acid Queen, Steve Winwwod as the Hawker, and Elton John playing the Pinball Wizard. A movie adaptation of the opera was made in 1975 and a stage version was eventually written in the early 90s.
