This vintage jersey is for the professional hockey team the Hartford Whalers based out of Hartford, Connecticut. The team was first founded as the New England Whalers and they competed in the World Hockey Association from 1972 to 1974. They were then moved to Hartford and they joined the NHL in the NHL-WHA merger of 1979. The Whalers were eventually moved again in 1997 and they became the Carolina Hurricanes. The team managed to win two conference championships before they joined the NHL, but they have never won a Stanley Cup.
