This t-shirt was designed for a competitor in the New York State Water Ski Championships, a competition organized by the New York State Water Ski Federation or NYSWSF. Water skiing originated in the 1920s as an exhibition sport, and it was only thanks to a small group of local water skiing enthusiasts living in New York, that it evolved to also become an organized competitive sport. This group, who later became the American Water Ski Association, held the very first national championships at Jones Beach in Long Island.
