Alabama entered the bowl undefeated, but ranked at No. 2 in the polls. During the game, they were pitted against the top ranked team, the Miami Hurricanes, and they came out victorious with a final score of 34 to 13. Their win solidified the team's 12th national championship, and MVP of the game went to future NFL running back, Derrick Lassic.
