This sweet vintage t-shirt bears a graphic of the beautiful Yvonne Craig as Batgirl. Craig was featured as the character in the 1960s television series Batman, which starred Adam West as the titular caped crusader. This wound up being the actress's most famous role, but she also appeared in It Happened at the World's Fair and Kissin' Cousins.
While several people have taken up the mantel of Batgirl throughout DC Comics canon, Craig was cast to play the most famous iteration of the character, Barbara Gordon, the clever daughter of police commissioner Jim Gordon. Batgirl made her debut on the series in the third season and fans, particularly young women were excited to see her addition to the cast. She was added during the season premiere in 1967, which was titled "Enter Batgirl, Exit Penguin".
The network that aired the show, ABC, felt that Batgirl added some much needed female representation to the Dynamic Duo, who became the Terrific Trio once Craig made her debut. The superheroine's presence on the small screen perfectly coincided with the female empowerment movement of the 1960s, however Batgirl wasn't allowed to engage in hand-to-hand combat onscreen. This was a restriction that also effected other crime-fighting female characters like Wonder Woman and the Bionic Woman, and in order to appease the censors, Batgirl's fight scenes had to be very carefully choreographed, with moves that resembled a professional dancer more than a martial artist.
Fits like a modern unisex adult medium. This shirt is distressed. It is soft and thin with several spots and holes, see pics.
