This incredible tee honors Unplugged, the live album that was recorded by Alice in Chains for the series MTV Unplugged. Recorded on April 10th, 1996 at the Brooklyn Academy of Music's Majestic Theatre, the performance marked the band's first concert since January 1994. While the band had plans to go on a promotional tour for the album Jar of Flies in the summer of '94, they wound up taking a hiatus instead. They were slated to tour with Metallica's Shit Hits the Sheds Tour alongside Suicidal Tendencies, Danzig, and Fight, but withdrew once the other band members discovered that vocalist Layne Staley was struggling with his heroin addiction again. Unplugged would later wind up being one of Staley's final live performances, before he chose to disappear from the public eye.

Spurred by the success of other grunge bands like Pearl Jam and Nirvana, MTV had been trying to book Alice in Chains for Unplugged for years, but they were repeatedly rebuffed until 1996. The day of the concert was fraught with issues, including guitarist Jerry Cantrell coming down with a nasty bout of food poisoning just before the show. Despite this the resulting live album was a massive hit that debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200.
