This awesome protest tee is straight out of the late 80s, and it features the classic anti-gentrification slogan, "die yuppie scum". The 1980s saw the emergence of a new socio-economic group called yuppies. The term represented "young urban professionals", who embraced and benefited from the economic growth of the era.

During his presidency, Ronald Reagan transformed the American economy and created an unprecedented economic boom. However to do this, he had to enact tax cuts that primarily benefited the wealthy and came at the cost of domestic social programs. This was what created the yuppies and the now iconic protest chant, "die yuppie scum".

Many people credit a riot at Tompkins Square Park in New York's East Village, as the origin of the phrase. As gentrification led to the displacement of more and more low-income residents, class tensions reached their boiling point. "Die yuppie scum" became a rally cry that was printed on shirts, bumper stickers, and spray painted across the city, all to discourage these new young professionals from driving out the working class.
