This awesome vintage shirt is from a contest that was held by McDonald's back in 1999. The contest was conducted in conjunction with the new live action Inspector Gadget movie being released by Disney and it offered a cash prize of a million dollars.
Inspector Gadget originated as an animated series from The DIC Entertainment Corporation. It centered around the adventures of a cyborg police investigator who was outfitted with a number of unique special abilities that could be activated using his catchphrase "Go-Go Gadget". In 1999 Disney owned DIC Entertainment and chose to adapt the series into a live action movie, that starred Matthew Broderick as the title character and Rupert Everett as his dastardly nemesis, Dr. Claw. The movie wound up being the last film produced by Caravan Pictures before it was merged into Spyglass Entertainment.
To help promote the movie, McDonald's ran this contest and also produced a series of Inspector Gadget themed Happy Meal toys. Since then, the Inspector Gadget series has become one of the most rare and sought after Happy Meal toys ever produced by McDonald's. The rareness of the toys make them worth over $300 online.
