This awesome vintage rock shirt is for the California based band, Jefferson Starship. The shirt is from the 70s and is supposedly a band issue shirt that was not commercially available at the time it was made. The white shirt features a blazing red sun image similar to the one seen on the front cover of the band's third album Spitfire. Released in 1976, Spitfire peaked at the No. 3 spot on the Billboard 200, and it held that spot for six consecutive weeks. The release followed their chart-topping album Red Octopus which also featured red circular imagery similar to graphic used on this shirt.
Jefferson Starship was formed in 1974 from members of the band Jefferson Airplane. Red Octopus marked the beginning of Marty Balin's position as an official full-time member of the band. Balin penned the singles "Miracles" and "Play on Love", the former of which made it to the No. 3 spot on the Billboard chart. Spitfire then featured writing contributions from Balin's old band Bodacious DF. Songs off the album included "With Your Love" and "St. Charles". Spitfire went Platinum, but the band was still disappointed in the record's sales in comparison to their previous release.
Their next release was in 1978 and it was the album, Earth featuring the songs "Count on Me", "Runaway", and "Crazy Feelin". Just like their previous two albums, Earth went platinum, and a US and European tour was scheduled soon after.
Fits like a modern unisex adult small. There are two repairs on the shoulder and light spots throughout that are too light to photograph.
