This super cool tee commemorates the first NASA mission of the Space Shuttle Columbia. The shuttle was first launched on April 12th, 1981, which was also the 20th anniversary of the first human space flight. This was actually a happy coincidence, as a technical problem had barred the shuttle from taking off on its original launch date, two days prior. Columbia was named after the first US ship to circumnavigate around the world, an appropriate title considering it was NASA's first successful orbiter.

The STS-1 mission had a small crew of only two men. It was commanded by John Young, one of the few men to have walked on the moon, and it was piloted by Robert Crippen, who was embarking on his first spaceflight during the Columbia mission. It was an exciting moment, as STS-1 marked the first American space flight since 1975, when NASA teamed with the Soviet space program for the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project.

The tag says medium but this shirt fits like a modern unisex adult small. This shirt is faded black in color.
