This awesome vintage movie t-shirt pays tribute to the third installment of Romero's legendary Night of the Living Dead series, Day of the Dead. The shirt is licensed to Dead Films Inc. 1985, which was the year the film first premiered, and it's likely that this tee could have been an exclusive goodie produced for the cast and crew of the movie.
George A. Romero is the iconic filmmaker often credited as the "Father of the Zombie Film". His 1968 masterpiece of horror, Night of the Living Dead indeed helped to establish many of the most commonly used tropes of modern day zombie films. He essentially changed the face of horror cinema, and the explicit gore depicted in Night of the Living Dead was considered highly controversial and groundbreaking at the time that it premiered.
Day of the Dead was the follow up to Romero's 1978 release, Dawn of the Dead, and just like the previous two films in the series, the movie made a commentary on modern day society. Romero's zombie movies were known for depicting more than just fantastical horrors like flesh eating monsters, they also showed how tragic and desperate situations could bring out the worst in humanity, and it was these complex story lines that helped to make Romero's films so brilliant and influential.
While Day of the Dead was the least commercially successful of Romero's original three zombie movies, it still garnered a huge cult following, and one of the film's major highlights were the incredible special effects created by legendary makeup artist Tom Savini. Savini had previously worked with Romero on Dawn of the Dead, and both movies earned the artist Saturn Awards for Best Make-Up.
