This awesome vintage cardigan was made in the 1960s and it features two front hand pockets, a metal zipper closure, and a shawl neck. The sweater is decorated with a brown and orange geometric pattern that adorns the front, back, and sleeves. This sweater resembles the Cowichan style sweaters traditionally made by the Cowichan people native to British Columbia. The sweaters combined both native knitting techniques and methods picked up from European colonizers. One of the defining characteristics of Cowichan sweaters is the use of thick, home-spun wool, usually in natural colors like brown or gray. In the mid 1900s, imitations also became popular throughout North America, as yarn supply stores began selling knitting patterns that mimicked Cowichan designs. Like traditional Cowichans, this sweater has been knitted with a heavy wool that's designed to be the perfect protection against the cold.
