This vintage tee features the legendary Fillmore West, a historic rock 'n roll music venue in San Francisco, California. Concert promoter, Bill Graham, is credited with bringing the establishment to fame under his operation from July 1968 to July 1971.

Since it's initial opening in 1910, the venue has existed in many forms. From a dance hall to a skating rink, to a venue for emerging black musicians. In early 1968, during the height of the hippie counterculture, a couple of bands from the San Francisco rock scene took over the space for a musical/social "laboratory experiment".

The collective lasted only six months, but these bands would later return to perform when the Fillmore West was under the direction of Bill Graham. These bands were The Grateful Dead, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Jefferson Airplane, and Big Brother and the Holding Company.

Under promotions of Bill, the Fillmore West became a pinnacle in the world of rock and roll. Everybody who was anybody played there. What started out as a platform for smaller, emerging artists turned into the epitome of success and fame. From Jimi Hendrix to The Who, dozens established artists of that time graced the stage at the Fillmore all within the two and half year time frame.

The week leading up to its closing, Graham presented five nights of shows featuring Hot Tuna and New Riders of the Purple Sage. The entire event filmed and recorded as a documentary and live album. The film was later released as Fillmore, and the album Fillmore: The Last Days.

Fits like a modern unisex adult medium. This shirt is worn in, there are several holes. See pics.

This item is from the estate of Craig MacGregor, the bassist for the band Foghat in the 1970s, 80s, and again in the 2000’s.  The item was owned by Craig, a collector of t-shirts, and stored for some time in a basement before it came into our possession.  As a result there may be some lingering basement odor. All items are authentic pieces of rock and roll history and in many cases are one-of-a-kind.  Further authentication and chain-of-custody can be provided upon request.
