This incredible tee commemorates a series of Guns N' Roses concerts that took place in October of 1989 at the Los Angeles Coliseum. The group agreed to perform four concerts in their hometown, as the opener for the Rolling Stones, amidst the band's Steel Wheels Tour. This was a few years after Guns N' Roses had taken the world by storm with their smash hit debut album, Appetite for Destruction, which included the iconic tracks "Welcome to the Jungle" and "Sweet Child o' Mine". The band followed this up with the album, G N' R Lies, which peaked at the No. 2 spot on the Billboard 200.
By this point, Guns N' Roses had already reached massive commercial success, but they had also earned a reputation for being rough around the edges. In particular, lead singer, Axl Rose was the subject of much controversy in the late 80s. One noteworthy incident involving the singer actually occurred during their Stoned in LA concerts at the Coliseum. On the first night of the series, Rose told fans that these would be his last shows with the band, unless certain members stopped "dancing with Mr. Brownstone". This allusion to one of the songs off their debut album, was directed towards Slash and Izzy Stradlin and their heroin addictions.
Despite Rose sloppily airing his grievances on stage, fans were still clambering for tickets to see Guns N' Roses in LA, and their popularity only continued to grow from there. The band's next two albums were released simultaneously, Use Your Illusion I and II, marking the first that a band held both the No. 1 and No. 2 spots on the Billboard 200 at the same time.
