This unique vintage tee is an original piece of merchandise promoting the first ever Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. This iconic music festival is held each year in the Colorado Desert, at the Empire Polo Club. This shirt dates back to the inaugural event held in 1999, but the idea behind Coachella dates even further back. During their 1993 Vs. Tour, Pearl Jam played a show at the Polo Club amidst their Ticketmaster boycott. The show was a success that proved the Empire Polo Club was a viable venue for large-scale events. Years later, Goldenvoice, the same concert promotion company that booked the venue for Pearl Jam, decided to stage a festival at the site. Coachella was announced just one week after the infamous Woodstock '99, and the disastrous conditions of that event encouraged the organizers to redouble their efforts to stage a successful festival.

Despite temperatures surpassing 100, the inaugural Coachella went off without a hitch, and it was lauded by both critics and attendees. While the first event was a huge financial loss for Goldenvoice, it set the stage for what would eventually become one of the most popular and profitable music festivals in the world.

This shirt lists the full lineup from Coachella 1999, which included the headliners Beck, Tool, and Rage Against the Machine. The festival also featured The Chemical Brothers, Morrissey, Perry Farrell, Underworld, Breakbeat Era, Art of Noise, Perfect Circle, Derrick May, Jurassic 5, Kid Koala, The Bicycle Thief, Ben Harper, Pavement, Money Mark, Fantastic Plastic Machine, Spearhead, Thievery Corporation, Lamb, Black Eye Peas, Ugly Duckling, and many others.

Fits like a modern unisex adult Extra Large. This shirt is distressed with several holes, see pics.
