The full album title was Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814, and it contained a slew of memorable hits including "Miss You Much", "Escapade", "Black Cat", "Love Will Never Do (Without You)", "Alright", and of course the title track. The album's eclectic style bridged the gap between genres like pop, R&B, industrial, and new jack swing, and it wound up becoming the first album to produce number one hits in three different calendar years.

The Rhythm Nation Tour saw Jackson traveling across North America, Japan, and Europe, and it put an emphasis on theatricality over vocal prowess.
