This awesome double sided concert tee commemorates the 1997 Tibetan Freedom Concert. The first Tibetan Freedom Concert was held in San Francisco the year before, and it was organized by the Beastie Boys with the help of the Milarepa Fund. The Beastie Boys had wanted to create a Live Aid-style benefit concert to support the Tibetan Independence Movement, and their series of Tibetan Freedom Concerts helped spread awareness among young adults in the 90s.
The 1997 concert was held at Downing Stadium on Randalls Island in New York City. Held over the first full weekend in June, the show featured performances by Foo Fighters, U2, Biz Markie, De La Soul, Pavement, Patti Smith, The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Radiohead, Alanis Morissette, Bjork, Rancid, Blur, Ben Harper, Sonic Youth, Noel Gallagher, A Tribe Called Quest, the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Porno for Pyros, Lee Perry, and Eddie Vedder and Mike McCready.
