This awesome shirt is a vintage souvenir from a trip to Hawaii in 1978. The shirt is modeled to look like a sports jersey with the date of the trip posing as the jersey number. The 70s were an interesting time for Hawaii, as the islands became quite a hotbed for tourism after they were granted statehood in 1959. Popular media like Elvis' Blue Hawaii and the CBS series Hawaii Five-O painted the islands as an exciting and exotic tropical paradise.
1978 actually proved to be an important turning point for Hawaii as that was the year of the Hawaii State Constitutional Convention. This political event laid the groundwork for projects that would preserve Hawaiian culture. It also established Hawaiian as the official state language for the first time since the overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdom.
The tag says extra large but this shirt fits like a modern unisex adult large
