This colorful striped shirt was made by the brand Lightning Bolt in the 70s. While Lightning Bolt was originally known for their surfboards and surf apparel, like many surf brands they later branched out into the skate market. The company was started in Hawaii by local surf legends Gerry Lopez and Jack Shipley, and the brand rose to fame by creating boards that emphasized speed and agility. They achieved this with the help of expert shapers like Tom Parrish, Reno Abellira, and Barry "BK" Kanaiaupuni.

As surfing rose in popularity during the mid 20th century, so did skateboarding. On days when the waves weren't up to par, surfers would often take to the streets instead, enjoying what was sometimes referred to as "sidewalk surfing". This shirt celebrates the sport with a pattern of colorful stripes combined with skateboarding figures.
