The first moon landing was achieved by NASA on their Apollo 11 flight. Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong landed on the moon on July 20, 1969, and the pair spent around two and a quarter hours exploring the site, which they named Tranquility Base. Meanwhile millions of people across the globe watched a live TV broadcast of Armstrong taking his first steps on the moon.
