The Monkees consisted of Micky Dolenz, Michael Nesmith, Peter Tork, and Davy Jones, and the group was originally formed for a television series following the misadventures of a fictional band. The series aired on NBC for two seasons and its popularity lead to the Monkees becoming not just a real life musical group, but one of the most commercially successful bands of the 1960s. The Monkees 20th Anniversary Tour was launched when interest in a revival of the television show was sparked in 1986. Nesmith was the only original member who didn't participate in the 1987 tour, due to contractual obligations with his production company.
