Nike began as Blue Ribbon Sports in the mid 60s, and it was born of a business deal between recent college graduate, Phil Knight and his former running coach, Bill Bowerman. It started as a running shoe company with production happening in Japan but, after the split with the Japanese supplier, the company re-branded as Nike.
The 80s were a big decade for the brand, as they began to sign early career athletes like Kobe Bryant, Lebron James, and of course, Michael Jordan. 1988 was also when Nike introduced their famous catchphrase "Just Do It," allegedly inspired by the last words of famous criminal Gary Gilmore.
The New Jersey 10 Miler and Rites of Spring 5k, later renamed the New Jersey 3 Bridges Run, is an annual race that happens every spring in southern New Jersey near Ocean City. The race boasts beautiful scenery, with a view of the water throughout the entire run. It's also a challenging run, with notable elevation gains within short distances.
