This cozy sleep shirt promotes Star Trek: The Animated Series, and it dates back to the decade that the show first debuted, in the 70s. Star Trek: TAS was the first of what would become many spin off shows, based on Gene Roddenberry's Star Trek: The Original Series. Despite being canceled in 1969, The Original Series had been an object of significant fan enthusiasm, prompting Roddenberry to search for a way to continue the adventures of the starship Enterprise. No longer confined by costly sets or complicated special effects, the animated medium allowed for new possibilities such as less humanoid aliens. It also did its job of continuing the original story, and some fans view it as an unofficial fourth season of TOS.

Star Trek: The Animated Series was a hit in terms of ratings, and it became the first Star Trek series to win an Emmy, specifically the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Children's Series. While the animated format did lead advertisers to push the show as a children's program, it was actually much more popular among older kids and adults. This isn't surprising considering Roddenberry made it a point early in production, that the show should be entertaining for all ages.

Nearly the entire main cast from The Original Series returned to voice their animated counterparts. This included William Shatner as Captain Kirk, Leonard Nimoy as Spock, DeForest Kelley as Dr. McCoy, James Doohan as Montgomery Scott, Nichelle Nichols as Uhura, and George Takei as Sulu.

Fits like a modern unisex adult oversized small. This shirt has little to no stretch, and was designed to be a pajama top.
