Hawaii is home to numerous lovely strains of marijuana and the variety also exists in its name. Locals refer to pot as dakine or pakalolo, which is the Hawaiian word for "numbing tobacco". Depending on the region, there's also Maui Wowie, Kona Gold, Haleiwa Heaven, Puna Butter, Manoa Madness, or Kauai Electric.
Hawaii has an extensive history with mary jane, and it was first featured in a newspaper article in 1842. Advertisements for medical marijuana continued to appear in newspapers until the state attempted to rid itself of the plant. Hawaii received more money than any other state to seize the recreational drug, and with the encouragement of the War on Drugs in the late 80s, Hawaii managed to seize more marijuana than any two states.
