This amazing brown leather jacket is a piece of both military and fashion history. This is a standard issue MIL-J-78233 G-1 military flight jacket from the 1980s. The G-1 jacket was developed for aviation personnel for the United States Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard, and for decades they have remained one of the most iconic pieces of military issue apparel.

The G-1 jacket was developed with both comfort and warmth in mind, as they were designed to protect pilots from the cold temperatures of high altitudes, without compromising their mobility. They also had a lasting impact on fashion and pop culture.

During World War II pilots would decorate their leather flight jackets with colorful patches, and this trend eventually worked its way into various subcultures, essentially giving birth to the battle jacket. G-1 jackets were also popularized through film, particularly in the 80s. Following the success of the 1986 Tom Cruise movie, Top Gun, leather flight jackets became all the rage, and retailers were filled with variations on the G-1 design. Though often imitated, this jacket is a military grade original from San Diego Leather.  

Fits like a modern unisex adult extra large or size 46. The outer sleeve from the shoulder to the cuff measures 27 inches. There is some fading on the inner lining, see pics.
