This vintage double-sided tee commemorates an important moment in civil rights history. The shirt honors the Million Man March that took place on October 16th, 1995. Referred to here as a "holy day of atonement", the Million Man March was a massive gathering of African American men that took place in Washington D.C. The idea was to bring politicians' attention towards minority issues, and it was also organized in conjunction with an event called the Day of Absence. Black Americans who couldn't attend the march were encouraged to stay home from their jobs and schools in favor of attending teach-ins and worship services that focused on strengthening their community.
The march was organized with the help of groups like the National African American Leadership Summit, the Nation of Islam, and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, and it was deemed especially necessary in the wake of the Republican Party's victory during the 1994 Congressional election. This shirt features a depiction of the crowd gathered around the National Mall, and the back proudly says, "I'm 1 in a million".
Fits like a modern unisex adult Extra Large. There is a small hole on the front and a flaw in the print, see pics.
