This awesome vintage tee celebrates the hilarious comedy series, Mystery Science Theater 3000, and it features a graphic of one of the show's wisecracking hosts, Crow T. Robot, saying "bite me". This shirt is copyright 1996, the year that the show was given a film adaptation, which was distributed by Universal Pictures. The movie followed the same format as the television series, which focused on a space station janitor who is forced to watch an onslaught of uproariously bad B-movies. Trapped with him are the janitor's robotic companions Tom Servo and Crow T. Robot, and together the trio try to lesson the pain of the bad movies with their humorous commentary.
MST3K first premiered on the local Minnesota television station, KTMA-TV, where it was created by Joel Hodgson, who also portrayed the series' human host. The show was a local hit, but it wasn't enough to save the station's declining viewership. Thankfully, the series was picked up by what eventually became Comedy Central, and it spent the next few years growing a small, but dedicated fanbase.
Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie debuted shortly before the show was dropped by Comedy Central, only to later be picked up by The Sci-Fi Channel. In the movie, Mike Nelson, who replaced Joel as the human host, is forced to watch the Universal monster movie, This Island Earth.
