This incredible tee is an original piece of promotional merchandise from the 90s, celebrating Baz Lurhmann's modernized adaptation of the William Shakespeare classic, Romeo + Juliet. This 1996 film starred Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes as the two titular teenage lovers, and it re-imagined the infamous tragedy as a sizzling crime drama set in Verona Beach.

For many it became a classic teen movie of the decade, as it breathed new life into the Bard's dated material. While the film maintained most of the original dialog of the play, it also starred one of the biggest hearthrobs of the decade, and featured a soundtrack packed with bands like Garbage, Radiohead, and Butthole Surfers. For young people of the time, Lurhmann's movie did something unprecedented, it made something from their English textbook look undeniably cool.

The film's popularity among 90s teens was reflected in its numerous MTV Movie Awards nominations, but the movie actually proved far more successful during the 51st British Academy Film Awards. Romeo + Juliet actually beat out DiCaprio's other major hit movie of the decade, Titanitc, and it took home the BAFTA awards for Best Direction, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Production Design, and Best Original Film Music.
