This awesome shirt promotes the 1994 animated series The Tick, which was based on the satirical superhero created by Ben Edlund. The show lasted for three seasons on the Fox Kids programming block, and it featured the voice talents of Townsend Coleman, Cam Clarke, Jess Harnell, Kay Lez, Rob Paulsen, and Micky Dolenz of the Monkees. The Tick originated as the mascot for the newsletter of New England Comics, a chain of comic stores based out of the Boston area. He was created as a parody of typical comic book superheros, and Edlund began producing various stories starring the Tick, which were published by New England Comics.
The idea for an animated series came when Edlund was approached by the toy licensing and design company, Kiscom. It was through Kiscom, that Edlund was introduced to Sunbow Entertainment and writer Richard Liebmann Smith, who helped him create the first script of the show. Fox actually turned down the first pitch of the series, but they gave the pair five days to refine it and represent it. In that short amount of time, they were able to set the stage for what would become a beloved cartoon of the era.
