This incredible tee is for the beloved cult film The Crow, which was released in 1994. The movie was based on the James O'Barr comic book series of the same name, and it centered on a vigilante superhero, who is resurrected from the dead to avenge his late fiancee. O'Barr actually conceived of The Crow to help him grieve the loss of his own fiancee, who was killed by a drunk driver. He was then approached by writer John Shirley, who wanted to adapt the story for film. Originally the movie was to be distributed by Paramount Pictures, and it was slated for a direct-to-video release, but these plans changed over the course of the film's production.
There were initially doubts that the movie would be able to attract a mainstream audience, but as filming progressed studio executives became impressed by the movie's dark stylistic tone, and the enigmatic performance of lead actor Brandon Lee, who was cast as Eric Draven/The Crow. Lee's compelling performance attracted additional attention after he was tragically killed on set. Lee wound up being fatally injured by a prop gun during the final days of shooting, forcing the studio to make a difficult decision about whether or not to complete and release the film. In the end, The Crow was released by Miramax Films to critical and commercial acclaim, and it also made a lasting impact on the movie industry. The Crow proved the cinematic potential of darker comic book adaptations, and it also forced Hollywood to completely reform their prop-gun safety protocols.
